Annie Butterfield

Annie was born and raised in Oakland. After attending college in the South Bay and spending time living in Oregon and Hawaii, she’s proud to call Oakland home again.

Annie’s interest in fitness began when she secured her first office job and noticed the toll a sedentary lifestyle was taking on her body. Determined to feel better, she developed a fitness routine and quickly saw the positive impact it had on her physical and mental well-being. Inspired to help others experience the same, she earned her first certificate in 2012, and has continued learning and growing in the field ever since. With over a decade of experience, she’s guided clients through a wide range of modalities including yoga, high-intensity interval training, and strength training, ultimately finding her passion in weight lifting and functional movement, which is now her primary focus.

Annie builds her clients’ programs around foundational movement patterns (such as squats, hinges, pushes, pulls, and unilateral work like single-leg exercises) because they’re essential to daily function and the most effective way to train the body as a whole. By emphasizing these core patterns, Annie helps clients develop strength, improve mobility, and engage multiple muscle groups at once for maximum efficiency and long-term results. She prioritizes form, progressive overload, and thoughtful, individualized programming that aligns with each client’s specific goals whether they’re new to strength training or have years of experience. Annie also draws from her foundational knowledge of anatomy and nutrition to support clients holistically. Above all, she aims to help clients feel confident in the gym, and leave with the knowledge to build effective routines on their own.
